iUgo Teachables is the brainchild of Nicola Smith, Managing Director and co-founder of Essential Resources.
Introducing iUgo Teachables
In 2000, Nicola and Geraldine Sloane launched Essential Resources, Teachables parent brand, when they saw a gap in education for teaching resources that were curriculum-aligned and yielded progression in learning. They wanted to support learning with fun, engaging resources that supported teachers and encouraged a love of learning.
Essential Resources has gone on to phenomenal success in New Zealand and Australia since then. Over 90% of New Zealand schools and 50% of Australian schools use and love Essential Resources Publications. Essential Resources has partnered up with other fantastic New Zealand brands to create bespoke solutions around the world – and are always at the forefront of education, creating powerful content for teachers that will inspire a lifelong love for learning in students.
Essential Resources made their first venture into digi-tech in 2012, when iUgo was developed off the back of best-selling series Curriculum Planning Made Easy. It provided a tool for teachers to effectively plan in accordance with their local curriculum, it saved oodles of time and eliminated the need to reinvent the wheel every school year. Today, over 20% of New Zealand teachers use iUgo to make their working life easier.
Nicola noticed that the landscape and format in which teaching took place was shifting at an unprecedented pace, but also realised that their need for fresh Essential Resources content was the same. The idea dawned on her: why not take Essential Resources publications online and put them in a platform that allows teachers to access treat-sized content aligned to the curriculum? And so, Teachables was born.
Teachables provides thousands of lesson activities, lesson plans and worksheets for Years 1–8 that are built to encourage learning and develop creative and critical thinkers. Teachables was created to save teachers precious time, therefore all resources are curriculum linked, you can search key Learning Areas from the New Zealand curriculum to find bite sized resources written by the experienced catalogue of Essential Resources authors.
